Democrats cry dictatorship while victims simply cry.
By Greg Rabidoux

As someone who went to school, worked, and lived in DC for years, I pray that President Trump's actions today will help save our once beautiful and safe nation's capital. While the Left is outraged that the Trump Administration has the audacity to want to clean up DC streets, restore law and order and actually make DC livable, the fact is this-The weak, feckless, misguided and utterly soft on crime DC "leadership" brought this on themselves. And, since DC is for all Americans, they brought "it," crime, drugs, gangs, homelessness, revolving door justice, emboldened youthful offenders, on all of us.

During my years in DC not a day went by where I didn't see, feel, get touched by or experience first-hand the utter unraveling and deterioration of a once great place. Anyone who denied keeping their head on a swivel or fingers-crossed they don't become the next victim simply by having to be there (DC) is lying or in complete denial. Since the Left seems to view everything through the prism of race, they are now howling that Trump only cares about DC because of recent attacks by DC street thugs against whites. This includes the brutal beating of a former teenaged DOGE employee who was bravely trying to protect his girlfriend against vicious attackers, some as young as 12 years old. Is this what we, including the Left, truly want our nation's capital to be?
I recall one instance where a friend of mine was mugged and beaten by thugs who apparently mistook him for a rival drug dealer. He was an innocent intern for crying out loud, similar to the one who as also killed recently in DC. Did anything happen to the perpetrators? Nope. Because in DC, like so many of our large urban cities like L.A., Chicago, NYC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, and Portland, justice is dispensed by soft-on-crime prosecutors, judges whose sympathies seem to lie with the criminals or are truly hamstrung by local laws to do anything to deter crime, and police who have been told by Democrat-socialist mayors to "stand down" lest criminal mobs become "frightened" or "upset" and decide to burn the city down in "righteous rage."

The result? In DC and many other cities, emboldened gangs, looters, and rioters repay such acts of incompetence and cowardice by devastating the city while leaders on the Left like Jasmine Crockett spew hipster girl nonsense in the hopes of being a social influencer rather than getting behind real, positive reform. And this approach, social work and incendiary rhetoric over simple but effective law and order, is exactly the naive and incredibly dangerous path Democrat-Communists like Zohran Mamdani want to bring to NYC. Once led by a competent Mayor (Giuliani) and a tough Police Commissioner (Kerik) who applied the "broken windows" theory of policing to their city, enforcing even seemingly trivial laws before things could escalate, now many cities like NYC, and the DC, led by Democrats, prioritize being a sanctuary over being safe. In practice this means lawlessness and a safe haven for criminals, illegally here or otherwise. Just ask all the families of their victims how they feel about leaders like Governors Pritzker (Illinois), Newsom (California) or Hochul (NY) prioritizing illegal immigrants and criminals over regular, law-abiding citizens.
So, while the Left trots the same old, tired playbook on anything and everything Trump says or does (racist, the KKK, Hitler, transphobe, homophobe) the truth is, when it comes to DC at least, something had to be done. And, unlike other areas that do not fall under federal law, the President has real, yes, constitutional powers, even obligations, to step in where previous presidential paralyzed by woke and misguided politics like Biden feared to tread.
Look, I do not know if this initiative will truly make DC safe and beautiful again. The woke and feckless policies of the DC Council, the weak leadership of the DC mayor, a culture of homelessness, lawlessness, drugs, gangs, and a system which coddles criminals of all ages has pretty deep roots. But then again, Trump like Washington before him, does have access to a powerful, federal axe to chop away the rot. Here's hoping this time we preserve the Cherry Tree and eliminate the rest of the sewage in the swamp of DC. We, as Americans, deserve nothing less.
